West Maui

We love our friends on O’ahu very much, and we can’t wait for you to meet Miles. But we decided that we needed to spend a week of catching up on sleep and snorkeling and hanging out with Grand Mimi, so we’re spending our whole time in the islands on idyllic West Maui (thanks Dave!) and doing that. Apparently it is now illegal to build this close to the ocean. =)

San Jose Part 3

Here are some pics of Miles perfecting his pincer grasp at dinner…

And on Monday we drove Uncle Paul back to SF and let Miles expend some energy in Golden Gate Park. He finally decided it was ok to crawl on grass, lured by my cell phone….

San Jose Part 2

Lest the pictures are not obvious, the Kuo-Kiefer-Carpios love to eat!

We had lunch at Aquis Mexican, and another Chinese banquet place. The banquet halls are identified in our family by a defining feature (the one with the duck fat loaf — a favorite of Suzie, or the one who’s chef cooked for the President of Taiwan).

Sunday’s dinner was across from the duck fat loaf place, and featured (among many courses) the mayonnaise-walnut-shrimp, Brett’s favorite. We also had duck tongue (!), which was surprisingly delicious. The pictures tell it all!

San Jose Part 1

We arrived in San Jose on Saturday after a fairly calm flight. Miles did pretty well, and was thrilled to get off the plane!

We went to dim sum in Mountainview (the best dim sum Brett and I had in a very long time!) with JoJo and Uncle Paul. And then Miles got to expend some energy swapping toys with his cousin Carter.

Miles took a nap during dinner but then woke up to sit at the head of the banquet table…

Miles in ATL….

The blog is back!

We’ve moved: 110 West 96th Street, #2C, NY, NY 10025 and are mostly unpacked and settled in, despite some hectic work and travel schedules!

This past weekend, Miles got to meet Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa, along with Great Aunt Cyndi and Great Uncle Michael, his second cousins Victoria, Isabel, and Gabby …. (are all these associations correct?)

We are off to the west coast on Saturday … see you all soon!

Miles in Miami!

We are here for the Society of General Internal Medicine Meeting at the hip, happenin’ Fontainebleau Hotel…spotted last week — Regis and Kelly…

Spotted this week: Miles Henry Kiefer, scoping the ladies at the kiddie pool, watching the waves, eating gelato, and getting some sun (well sun-screened, of course).

He was a doll on the plane, not fussy at all. He got a little cranky last night when we ventured out with him to have dinner with the Columbia people, but settled back down in this great room in his nice crib ….

My presentation is tomorrow and we are spending time with Brett’s Aunt Donna and Grandma Ruth on Saturday and Sunday. They stopped by today and brought diapers, baby food, and toys for Miles! Much appreciated!

Miles is asleep now and Brett and I are going to order some dinner!

Love,
Liz, Brett and Miles

Pizza Night and New Swim Trunks!

Last night was pizza night and everyone enjoyed the pepper-tomato-caper white pizza. Thanks Grandpa John for the book — Miles especially enjoyed gnawing on the crust I made from scratch!

And here’s a picture of the father and son matching Billabong swim trunks made from recycled bottles!! So cool! Thank you Grand Mimi!

End of an Era

We took Miles to the pediatrician today for his 6-month checkup, and she confirmed a suspicion we have held for the last couple of weeks: Miles is now Quite Tall and only Kinda Fat. I hope you’ll join us in a tearful farewell to the Wow Look at Those Chubby Cheeks era; I guess it couldn’t last, but wow, it was cute while it did. Dr. M blames the alarming trend on this new ‘moving around’ habit.
She also cleared him to eat everything except honey, so Miles got a little treat instead veggies today – he got to eat salmon at the big kids table. He did great.
